These terms govern your use of skein-platform.com. By creating an account or buying a token pack, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't create an account.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Skein, and 18 or older to buy token packs or earn writer royalties. By creating an account you affirm you meet the age requirement and have legal capacity to enter contracts.
Writers retain copyright in the Skeins, chapters, characters, and worldbuilding they post. By posting, you grant Skein a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, distribute, and promote the content on and off the platform (for example, social sharing previews, recommended-reads emails) for as long as the content stays on the platform plus a reasonable wind-down period after removal.
You may remove your content at any time. Removed content stops being displayed within a reasonable period; backup copies in our database backups may persist for up to 90 days before scheduled deletion.
Comments, ratings, theories, and survey responses you post grant Skein a perpetual, royalty-free license to display them in context, including after you close your account, because removing them would damage the integrity of public discussion threads other users participated in.
The platform's own UI, code, branding (the SKEIN wordmark), and editorial framing are owned by Skein Platform. You may not copy, reproduce, or build a competing product from our code, design system, or proprietary content.
You may request a refund of unspent tokens within 14 days of purchase. Email contactus@skein-platform.com from the address on your account. We refund the prorated unspent portion to the original payment method within 10 business days.
Tokens spent on chapter unlocks, writer tools, or tips are non-refundable. The chapter you unlocked is yours to read for the lifetime of the account.
If a platform error charged you wrong (duplicate webhook, double-bill), email us and we'll refund and document the bug.
Writer royalties are credited as tokens earned in your wallet ledger. Cash payout to a Stripe Connect account, when that feature is active, requires identity verification (KYC) and a US tax document (W-9 for US persons, W-8BEN otherwise). Payouts run on a monthly cadence once your balance exceeds the platform minimum. We currently take 30% of chapter-unlock revenue and 10% of tip-jar revenue; these rates are posted on the platform and don't change retroactively.
You may not use Skein to:
Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, account termination, and forfeiture of unspent tokens or unpaid royalties acquired in violation of these terms.
If a writer uses Skein's AI-assisted writing tools, they must follow the disclosure conventions documented on the platform (currently: a small "AI-assisted" tag on chapters where AI was used for more than light continuity-checking). Writers retain copyright in the resulting work to the extent that copyright law permits.
You may close your account at any time by emailing contactus@skein-platform.com or via in-app account deletion when that flow is live. We may terminate your account for material breach of these terms with notice where practical, immediately where the breach is severe (fraud, child-safety, security exploit).
On termination, unspent tokens become eligible for refund per Section 5 if you request within 30 days. After 30 days unspent tokens are forfeit.
Skein is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't warrant that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or virus-free. We don't warrant that any specific Skein will be completed by its writer.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Skein's total liability to you for any claim arising from these terms or your use of the platform is limited to the greater of (a) $100, or (b) the total amount you paid to Skein in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes are resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in the State of Florida, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
Before filing suit, you agree to attempt good-faith resolution by emailing contactus@skein-platform.com with a description of the dispute and your contact information. We will respond within 30 days.
We update these terms as the platform changes. Material changes get a 30-day notice posted at the top of this page with the new effective date and (for active token-pack holders) an email notification. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance.
